Added Recent Comments block on right side margin

We've added a "Recent Comments" block to the right side margin. This will help to keep everyone aware of the comments and questions being posted throughout the site.

Subscribing to Comments

In case you haven't noticed this yet... There is a link at the bottom of every piece of content on abingdon360 that says "Subscribe by email". And next to that is "RSS".

I wanted to explain what these are for.

As comments start flowing in for your Business Profile or for an Event that you've added, you will probably want to get notified of what people are saying. You can do this by clicking one of those links.
The subscribe by email option is probably the easiest. You just click that link and input your email address.

Finding Events on the Virginia Highlands Festival Calendar

We put together this quick video tour of abingdon360 in an effort to help people that might be coming in from out of town and looking for a better way to find events.

There are several ways you can find events you're interested in. You can use the VA Highlands Festival Calendar found here. Or you can do a search on the Upcoming Events page. And from any of the events pages you can easily "Add to my Trip".

Hope this helps you find what you're interested in during the festival.

We're Adding Coupons

We are adding the ability for businesses to create and share coupons. This is just a sneak peek at how this works. More to come very soon.

Here is what a typical coupon might look like with an image uploaded and all the content filled in.

Example coupon page.

And this is what it looks like to easily add/edit the coupon.

Example of what the edit page looks like.

We think it's going to be a great addition to the events and business profiles. You can attach coupons to events and also list them on your business profile.

We've implemented a new commenting system

New commenting system lets you login with social media login to post on abingdon360.com

We're excited to let you know that we have added a new commenting system onto abingdon360.com.

It will allow site visitors to post comments using their Social Media login information, such as Twitter and Facebook.

This, we hope, will make it easier for people to post comments and be involved since they don't have to create accounts on abingdon360 in order to post. The added benefit however is that the comments can still be personal and associated with their facebook account etc.

There is also a place to Like the comment and Share the page.

How to Add Video to your Events

You probably already have some videos uploaded to YouTube. You can easily add that video to your event on abingdon360.com. It only takes a few seconds.

If you'd like to add videos to your events, take a look at this tutorial.

Adding Events Part 2 - Advanced Events

We're picking up where we left off on the last "Adding Events" video. We'll talk about using advanced repeating events, adding images and other advanced features to make your events stand out from the crowd. We didn't cover adding videos to your events in this one, so take a look at the other tutorial on how to do that.

If your business profile is already on the site, please contact us to get your login.

As we were building abingdon360.com, we went ahead and setup several business profiles in order to do testing etc.

So there are some business profiles that have already gotten started and need to be handed over to the proper owners.

For those businesses who have already been listed here, please contact us and we will get your login to you. You don't need to "Register Your Business" since it's already been done. We just need to verify ownership and then we will provide the login so you can continue developing the profile and updating your organization's events.

How To Add Events - Part 1

Here is a quick tutorial on adding basic events. What I mean by basic is that it is not making use of anything complicated on the calendar system. It does not repeat. No picture, no video, etc. Just very basic.

There are lots of events being added like this one. You can do it in only a matter of minutes and it gets your event on the calendar for everyone to see.

It's a great starting place if you've never added an event before.

Register Your Business on Abingdon360 and then Create Your Business Profile - 2 video tutorials

Here is a short video that will walk you through the process of Registering Your Business.

After you've finished this video, watch the video below on Creating Your Business Profile as it picks up where the one above leaves off.

If you have any problems following these tutorials, please just let us know as we'd be glad to give you some help.

Heard some businesses in Abingdon are raffling off a $5,000 NYC shopping spree. Where can I find a ticket?

Re: Abingdon Olive Oil Company
Friday, Mar 30th by Sechic

My husband and I enjoyed our olive oil tasting experience. Staff was knowledgeable and enthusiastic. Purchased the Herbes de Provence olive oil. Unfortunately, it had an extremely dry cork which broke off while opening the bottle. It is disappointing as I now have cork infused olive oil.

We really enjoyed the tasting this afternoon! We purchased the Organic Tuscan Herb Infused Olive Oil & Basiks herbs, they are amazing. We enjoyed your enthusiasm and knowledge and look forward to future visits.

Re: Abingdon Muster Grounds
Sunday, Jan 8th by Rocky Underwood

Anyone choosing to visit the Abingdon Muster Grounds is invited to also visit the pioneer cabin (circa 1775) of Colonel William Preston Edmundson, who accompanied the Virginia militia from Abingdon to the Battle of Kings Mountain. The cabin is located in Emory, Virginia just 7 miles northwest of Abingdon, 1/2 mile off Interstate 81. Please call 336-816-0861 to arrange a tour of this authentic and historic Revolutionary War cabin, or visit our website at www.theemoryhouse.com.

Hi. Thanks for the kind words!

By the way, I thoroughly enjoyed my time shopping in Zephyr's and nibbling at Muffin Man while my husband did business across the street. I will stop again to fully investigate the beautiful jewelry shop and other antique stores next week! You have a very lovely downtown that gets me AWAY from strip malls and into the spirit!

The phone number for Zephyr Antiques is incorrect. It should read 276.628.6115.

Re: Cooking Along the Crooked Road
Tuesday, Oct 18th by Charity Puckett

I highly recommend these cooking classes, even if you can just make a couple a year. Experienced chiefs sharing their recipes, meet new people, and even get to eat the yummy food at the end of the night. Not very experienced in the kitchen? Don't worry, they will walk you through. Be sure to check out the upcoming classes as the holiday's get closer. You will not want to miss out!!

The street address should be Norton Coeburn Road instead of North Coeburn Road

Dear Penny Hite,

My husband had just come back through Abingdon after a trip to Pigeon Forge and Gatlingburg Tennesee. I INSISTED we find this store from the advertising we found at the Comfort Suits in Abingdon.

Little did I know you and your wonderful town would be the HIGHLIGHT of our trip! We adored the building and the history. We loved the tasting! Your knowledge and enthusiasm is contagious! I left with a bottle of your 18 year aged Balsamic Vinegar and two bottles of the EVOO.

This company is the most unique and pleasant experience I have had in years. My husband agrees. (He was the one with the camera).

Thank you for a most (!) pleasurable experience! We will be back. We also have friends in the Princeton WV area whom we will encourage vigorously to visit!

Your art work is fabulous. I wish I could afford it. Please keep painting! Perhaps some of the wonderful things that surround you in lovely Abingdon?

Thank you again for a fantastic visit. I feel as if I've made a friend!
