About Appalachian Sustainable Development - ASD:

FOOD ACCESS PROGRAMS: *Healthy Families~Family Farms: Donates fresh, nutritious, local, "seconds quality" produce to food banks to meet immediate food needs. *Grow Your Own: Empowers families to grow their own food in backyard and market gardens. Providing education and training, social support and encouragement, and all tools and supplies necessary. *Garden Box Project: Raised, self-watered mobile garden boxes that allow small families, those with physical limitations or families with no green space to grow fresh, healthy produce. All soil, plants and boxes are provided as well as garden partners to help plant and visit participants. *Learning Landscapes: Educational gardens that teach basic life skills to children and adults by utilizing garden spaces. Providing fresh, healthy food, exercise and social connections. SUSTAINABLE AGRICULTURE/FOOD SYSTEM DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMS: *Appalachian Harvest: A food hub in Duffield VA where limited resource farmers bring their graded produce for distribution to secured retail markets. *Appalachian Farmers Market Association (AFMA): Created to promote farmers markets and provide training, tech support and educational conferences. * Rooted in Appalachia (RiA): Connects consumers with the farmers who are growing and raising their food. *Agro-Forestry: Teaches people about local forest foods like Ginseng, Shiitaki mushrooms, Goldenseal, ramps, paw paws and various other fruit and nut trees as sources of local food and ways to earn income by creating value added products. Since 1995, we have been working in Central Appalachia. Learn more at: www.asdevelop.org. Donate today to ensure that our work continues. 100% of all donations stay in Central Appalachia and are tax deductible. ASD works with local farmers, landowners and families, other non-profits, corporate partners, individual donors and stakeholders to improve the health of all segments of the population in the region and works to ensure that sustainable agriculture and land use are driving forces in the regional economy. A 501 (c)3 transitioning Appalachia by supporting local agriculture, exploring new economic opportunities & connecting people to healthy food.
