An alert Washington County Virginia Sheriffs Office School Resource Officer...

An alert Washington County Virginia Sheriff’s Office School Resource Officer has placed charges of Felony Child Neglect and additional drug charges as a result of an incident that occurred at Rhea Valley Elementary school this afternoon.

According to Washington County Sheriff’s Office Sheriff Fred Newman, Deputy Cody Johnson observed a female in the car rider line who was operating a black Chevrolet Silverado acting in a very erratic manner. Upon making contact with the female she advised that she had used an illegal narcotic several hours before. The children were removed from the truck and taken inside the school. At that point a consent search was requested and drug paraphernalia was located inside the truck.

Lisa Marie Combs, age 29, of Damascus Virginia, was arrested and charged with felony child neglect, possession of SCH I or II narcotic (Methamphetamine), possession of drug paraphernalia and public intoxication. She was transported to the Abingdon facility of the Southwest Virginia Regional Jail Authority where she is currently being held without bond.

The Washington County Department of Social Services Child Protective Unit was contacted and took custody of the children.

School Resource Officer Deputy Mike Reid also assisted in the investigation.
* An arrest warrant is only a charge and not evidence of guilt. The defendant is entitled to a fair trial with the burden on the government to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
