A Bristol Virginia women is wanted in connection with the pursuit that took place on Sunday, October 7, 2018.
According to Washington County Va. Sheriff Fred Neman, central dispatch received a call at approximately 4:40 pm from the Dollar General store on Benhams Road in reference to two women in the store shoplifting. One of the females exited the store after refusing to allow management to check her purse for stolen items. Senior Deputy Scott Gemmell gave orders to the female to stop in the parking lot of the store where she disregarded his commands and got into the driver seat of a 2002 Honda Civic. Senior Deputy Gemmell approached the passenger side continuing to give commands for her to stop. She then put the car in reverse and backed up quickly turning the front of the vehicle in his direction. The vehicle came to a stop briefly, before accelerating and almost striking the deputy as she fled the parking lot.
Senior Deputy Gemmell then gave pursuit to the female traveling on Benhams Road and onto several other roads in the lower end of the county before entering into the City of Bristol Virginia. The pursuit continued through the City until it reached the Tennessee line where deputies terminated the pursuit.
At approximately 7:22 pm Bristol Tennessee Police Department located the 2002 Honda Civic on Meadow View Road which was unoccupied. While conducting an inventory of the vehicle a handgun was located in plain view in the driver’s floor board. The gun was found to have been stolen out of Washington County in late 2017.
During the investigation the female driver has been identified and warrants have been obtained. Heather Nicole Callahan, age 34, of 2000 Newton Street, Bristol Va. Is wanted for the following, Felony; Attempt to Maliciously Injury to Law Enforcement, Felony; Disregard Law Enforcement Command Endangering Law Enforcement, Misdemeanor; Drive Motor Vehicle License Revoked/Suspended, Misdemeanor; Reckless Driving and multiple Traffic Summons. Callahan is also wanted in Blountville Tn. and Bristol Tn.
