A 17 year old Patrick Henry High School student has been arrested and charged for assault on a teacher.

According to Washington County Va. Sheriff Fred Newman, on October 10, 2018 at approximately 1:30 pm, Patrick Henry High School’s School Resource Officer Sergeant Robbie Cruise responded to a disturbance in the school. An 83 year old retired teacher was substituting in a class at the school when a 17 year old male student became agitated in class. When the substitute teacher handed him a piece of paper with the assignment on it the student became more agitated. The juvenile stood up and the teacher requested for him to sit back down. The student then proceeded to go around the teacher to leave the room, shoving the teacher backwards in the process. The teacher fell backwards, hitting his head on the teacher’s desk resulting in him having staples and internal bleeding. The teacher was transported to Bristol Regional Medical Center where he is currently in intensive care.

The 17 year old male was charged with malicious wounding, he was transported to Highlands Detention Center where he is being held.

Book by Thomas Meehan and Bob Martin ~~ Music by Matthew Sklar Lyrics by Chad Beguelin ~~ Based upon the New Line Cinema film written by David Berenbaum ~~ A hilarious tale of Buddy, a young orphan who accidentally crawls into Santa’s bag and is taken back to the North Pole. The would-be elf is raised, unaware that he is actually a human, until his enormous size and poor toy-making abilities force him to face the truth. With Santa’s permission, Buddy embarks on a journey to New York City to find his birth father, and discover his true identity. Faced with the harsh realities that his father is on the naughty list and his half-brother doesn’t even believe in Santa, Buddy is determined to win over his new family and help remember the true meaning of Christmas. After all, the best way to spread Christmas Cheer is singing loud for all to hear.~~ Director's Notes The Elf-man Chronicles of Buddy, at Christmas. ~~ Christ·mas \"(‘krisməs)~~ noun ~~ 1.the annual Christian festival celebrating Christ's birth, held‪ on December 25in the Western Church.~~ exclamation ~~ 2. expressing dismay, despair, or surprise.~~ For our hero, BUDDY, the Elf, Christmas 2018 is going be unlike any other he’s had before. This one will be full of surprises . And as surprises often go, some will be great... and others, a little less great. In a matter of minutes, he will discover that his happy and syrup-filled life with Santa Claus has been based on a FIB! Buddy is not an ELF at all, but rather, j ust a human! And his real father works in publishing! whatever that is! So, Buddy embarks on a journey of self discovery, as only Buddy can.We can all identify with his search, full of longing for areal family. To feel the warm embrace of his father, to drink hot cocoa with his stepmom, and to snuggle with his newfound brother. From the snowy drifts of the North Pole to the bustling streets of New York City,Buddy swerves in and out of danger, bringing everyone he meets a proverbial gumdrop full of cheer.~~ And what about us, as we watch this musical from our comfortable seats? Are we capable of Buddy’s good cheer in the face of despair? Can we turn shock and dismay into joy and laughter with our own good nature and a few bars of Jingle Bells?~~ It’s easy to get caught up in the frenzied month of December, all the parties and shopping, the wrapping paper and ribbons. Let’s pause to reflect on the sparklejollyjingletwinkle y-ness of this wonderful life. Let’s learn from Buddy’s discovery. Let’s be inspired by this overgrown Elf-Man. Let’s cruise down Main Street, singing along with our own father, mother, kids, and grandkids. Let’s put our own innate and surprising abundance of sparklejollyjinkgletwinkl ey into this Christmas. And make everyone around us feel as good as a cup full of maple syrup and a ginger snap. It doesn’t matter if the teacher stood in front of him or not. You LISTEN to your substitute teacher and have RESPECT. You also don’t put hands on an elderly man!!
Thursday, October 11th, 2018
Charge this punk as an adult and put him away ! There is no respect for law or others by these gutter rats !
Thursday, October 11th, 2018
He should be charged as an adult. There is no reason to put your hands on anyone. So the young man was in the wrong in my opinion. Hoping the teacher is ok.

It says he went around the teacher to leave shoving him in the process, doesnt say teacher got in his way. No reason to put his hands on the sub. If I was the subs family prosecute to fullest extent of law. Little bit of jail time might stop this kid from doing something worse later.

He is a 17 year old punk who had no respect for his Elder regardless of who said what stop making excuses for him and trying to justify his stupidity he deserves everything he gets
Thursday, October 11th, 2018
What a punk. He evidently wasn't taught any better at home. He and his parents need to be taken out behind the woodshed and given a good old fashioned whooping.
Thursday, October 11th, 2018
So sad ! Discipline and respect starts at home !
Thursday, October 11th, 2018
Kids these days have it to easy. Bring back corporal punishment and things will change. There's to much babying kids these days. Prayers for the sub teacher my heart goes out to him and his family.
Thursday, October 11th, 2018
Guys don't be so quick to judge in the statement it says the guy tried to leave .it sounds like the teacher inserted himself in the young man's way .now sorry the teacher was hurt but I don't think that was the intent .....just saying
Thursday, October 11th, 2018
A trial as an adult may do this young man some good ! Prayers for the teacher🙏
Thursday, October 11th, 2018
I agree punishment to the fullest extent of the law allowed. Then make his parents pay all the medical bills. That's what's wrong with kids today no morals or stern hands like we had growing up. I believe the parents should be prosecuted as well
Friday, October 12th, 2018
Some of these young people have zero respect for anything and have no boundaries as to how they should act! This country will soon be in crisis, already are to get substitutes, to get young teachers in this profession. Pay and conditions can't compete with other industries! When you add all of the things we are tasked to do and deal with daily, actual teaching takes a back seat!
Thursday, October 11th, 2018
Praying for the teacher. God knows they dont get paid enough for what they put up with.
Thursday, October 11th, 2018
Breaks my heart the teacher is such a sweet man, and the boy need to get what he deserves there no sense in this kind of stuff
Thursday, October 11th, 2018
Lots of assumptions made on this thread... he’s being held, he’s been charged, let the case unfold. Man, people are rabid these days.
Thursday, October 11th, 2018
Prayers for both. Young adults need to realize that there are consequences for all behaviors and that social standards/laws exist for a reason.
Thursday, October 11th, 2018
That's what's wrong with some of these young people they have no respect for their teachers, others students. I think he should do time and his parents should pay for the teachers Bill's and whatever he needs. But you no what's sad this student will probably never learn his lesson and keep in doing what he us doing.
Thursday, October 11th, 2018
Young kids think they can do what that want. He had no business getting up then he wouldnt have pushed teacher
Thursday, October 11th, 2018
Prayers for the injured teacher- bless him for trying to make a positive difference - (and I am Sure he does to many) this press release is heartbreaking to read-
Thursday, October 11th, 2018
We respected our teachers and subs. Kids now r not taught respect. They think this world owes them something. I substituted for a while. But I could not do it. My children r 27 and 24 and still says respect the adults. Says yes and thank you. Will hold the doors for them. No excuse for this. I know some 90 year olds who still drive and r very with it. Just because he is 83 doesn’t mean he should not do what he loves. Prayer 🙏 for all involved including the others in room

Kids have no respect for anyone anymore because we can't discipline the way they need! Prayers for this teacher!

Tonya Torres, someone needs to organize a gofundme if he also works to supplement retirement income, to help him through this.

Just sad 💯 the sub teacher he did this too is a sweet person knew him all the way through my school years glade spring middle all the way through phhs and elementary school and his wife is amazing as ever this is just sad...

My grandson attends there as a senior, and his account of the story matches whats being reported. Sooo, . . . Plus the boy who did the assaulting, for whatever reasons, has some serious issues. What the boy did was wrong. Period. Needs to be held accountable instead of made excuses for. Theres NO excuse for a student to disrespect and shove, hit, or disobey instructions, argue, or whatever. Thats one thing wrong with youth today. No discipline at home. Schools arent allowed to discipline. So things like this is what we get.
Thursday, October 11th, 2018
Prayers that the sub. will be ok. Poor guy is probably supplementing his income to make it in the times we are living. Health insurance and supplements can alot from senior citizens. Maybe the kid will get a wake up call and take a different path.
