As part of ongoing investigations into crimes against children, the Washington County Sheriff’s Office and the Washington County Commonwealth’s Attorney presented to the Washington County Grand Jury the following indictments on October 23, 2018:
Leroy VanMeter, Jr (Northridge Road Meadowview, Virginia 45 years old) was indicted for abduction, which carries 1 to 10 years in prison; conspiracy to commit abduction, which carries 1 to 5 years in prison; 50 counts of production of child pornography, each count carries 3 to 30 years in prison; 20 counts of indecent liberties with a child, each count carries 1 to 5 years in prison; allowing a minor to be present during the manufacture of methamphetamine, which carries 10 to 40 years in prison; and distribution of methamphetamine to a minor, which carries 10 to 50 years in prison.
As part of the same investigation, indictments were returned against John Charles Pender (Hayters Gap Road Abingdon, Virginia, 68 years old) for one count of conspiracy to commit abduction, which carries 1 to 5 years in prison, and one count of rape, which carries 5 years to life in prison; Carla Norris Allen (Northridge Road Meadowview, Virginia, 37 years old) for one count of conspiracy to commit abduction, which carries 1 to 5 years in prison. All three have been apprehended and are currently being held, awaiting trial, at the Southwest Virginia Regional Jail in Abingdon.
Also indicted in reference to this investigation is Barry Andrew Glenn (Hayters Gap Road Abingdon, Virginia, 52 years old) for one count of conspiracy to commit abduction, which carries 1 to 5 years in prison. He is still at large and we are asking for the public’s assistance in locating him. As part of a separate investigation, David Wayne Anderson (Watauga Road Abingdon, Virginia, 52 years old) was indicted on 40 counts of possession of child pornography, each count carries 1 to 10 years in prison; 4 counts of aggravated sexual battery, each count carries 1 to 20 years in prison; and 2 counts of forcible sodomy on a child, each count carries 5 years to life in prison. He is currently being held without bond at the Southwest Virginia Regional Jail in Abingdon.
Other participating agencies included the U.S. Marshal’s Service, the Washington County Department of Social Services, and the Children’s Advocacy Center of Highlands Community Services.
Sheriff Newman stated, “Our children are the future. The Washington County Sheriff’s Office and the Washington County Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office will stop at nothing to ensure their safety”.
* An indictment is only a charge and not evidence of guilt. The defendant is entitled to a fair trial with the burden on the government to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
** Due to the sensitive nature of these prosecutions, no further information will be released.
