Newbern's founder Adam Hance served in the Patriot cause as did many of the other local residents in what would later become Pulaski County. But prior to the founding of Newbern and even before the Revolution, there was a fort located in the general area called Glade Springs. This fort was thought to have been one of the first established on the western side of the New River and known to be in existence by 1772. The living history group that was here this weekend looked so right representing the frontier militia. They certainly made for some incredible pictures, the one attached of Melvin in discussion with Sonny is one of my favorites.
