Company Overview

The Animal Defense League of Washington County was established in 1982 by 8 concerned members of the community. They rallied to have the current shelter built (the CC Porter Animal Shelter was dedicated in 1986) and made great strides toward animal welfare in this county. By 1995 the group had become fairly inactive, but still sponsored yard sales to help spay and neuter animals in the community and pay for emergency surgery for those in need. In November of 1999 a public meeting was held and the ADL was reinstated.

The main objective of the ADL is to raise awareness of pet overpopulation and to highly encourage and assist in providing spay/neuter surgeries to the animals in our region. We also offer assistance to those caring for feral cat colonies. Every animal that is sterilized has the potential of preventing thousands of births over a period of several years. Not only are there health and behavioral benefits of sterilizing your pets, but it is the only solution to pet overpopulation and the end of euthanasia of healthy, adoptable animals.

The Animal Defense League of Washington County, Inc. (ADL) is an all-volunteer, non-profit, 501 c(3) organization, and all donations to the ADL are tax-deductible. ADL's mission is the prevention of cruelty to all animals, the relief of suffering among animals, and the extension of humane education.
