On 12/27/2017 at approximately 6:30 am, deputies responded to Johnston Memorial Hospital in reference to a call of illegal drugs being present in a patient’s room.
According to Washington County Sheriff, Fred Newman, upon the deputy’s arrival the hospital security and nurse staff showed the deputies a powdery substance on the sink in the patients room, that was later field tested as cocaine. Upon further search of the room numerous pills, crystal methamphetamine and approximately $3,000 were recovered from the room.
Willie Mae Jane Berry, age 40, of 270 Briggs Drive, Pennington Gap, VA, was arrested and charged with six felonies and 1 misdemeanor. She has been charged with Possession of cocaine, possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine, possession with intent to distribute clonazepam, 2 counts Possession of hydrocodone, possession of dilaudid and possession of clonazepam. Berry was transported to the Abingdon Facility of the Southwest Virginia Regional Jail where she is being held without bond.
Charges are pending against the patient of the room.
