A follow up on a larceny investigation and a hunting out of season has resulted in the arrest of three individuals, on multiple misdemeanor and felony charges. According to Washington County Sheriff Fred Newman, Deputy Josh Asbury was conducting a follow up investigation when he encountered a male subject along with a male passenger seated in a pickup truck at a residence on Crescent Road, Glade Spring, Virginia. During the encounter Deputy Asbury observed a long gun in the vehicle. The individuals advised they had been turkey hunting. During a subsequent search of the vehicle a smoking device typically used for smoking narcotics, along with what appeared to be marijuana, and two handguns were found. During the investigation Virginia Conservation Police were called and responded to the scene due to the hunting violation. During the investigation multiple persons were interviewed. An initial consent to search was granted at a residence on Morning Glory Lane, Meadowview, Virginia, however, during that search the suspect denied consent and a search warrant was obtained, which resulted in narcotics being located. Two children, ages 2, and 10 months were located at the residence and Department of Social Services was notified. Christina Gail Whittaker, age 38, of Meadowview, Virginia was arrested and charged with knowing and intentionally possess or transport a firearm after having been convicted of a felony, possession of firearm while in possession of drugs, possession of controlled substance, and child neglect. Whittaker is being held without bond in the Southwest Virginia Regional Jail Authority in Abingdon. Amanda Danielle Ward, age 22, of Saltville, Virginia was arrested and charged with possession of firearm while in possession of drugs, possession of controlled substance, and possession of drug paraphernalia. Ward was released on an unsecured bond. Carroll Eugene Weaver, age 19, of Marion, Virginia was arrested and charged with providing false information to avoid arrest or impede and investigation. Weaver is being held without bond in the Southwest Virginia Regional Jail Authority in Abingdon. Additional charges were placed by the Virginia Conservation Police. Additional charges are pending against other individuals. * An arrest warrant is only a charge and not evidence of guilt. The defendant is entitled to a fair trial with the burden on the government to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
